DWP ASSISTANCE

The following information is given as a guide only. We are not able to guarantee the availability of a loan, or grant, but we are aware of the factors that the DWP take into account when arriving at their decision. Please note that all claims must be made within 3 (three) months of the date of the person's death.

Broadly speaking, you may receive help if you are responsible for making the funeral arrangements and there is insufficient money available provided that either you, or your partner, are in receipt of one of the following qualifying benefits, or entitlements:

    • Income Support
    • Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance
    • Pension Credit
    • Working Tax Credit (including disability element)
    • Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element
    • Council Tax Benefit
    • Council tax 2nd Adult Rebate

The DWP will, however, require information concerning:

    • the estate of the person who has died (particularly bank and building society accounts)
    • any insurance policies, provisions from charitable organisations, or lump sum payments from a pension scheme or relatives (either yours or those of the person who has died)
    • any savings you or your partner have by way of bank or building society accounts, National Savings, Premium Bonds, or cash

Please note: the Widow's Payment does not count as savings.

The above is for information only and is not intended to be a complete authoritative statement of the law. If making a claim, we will help all clients unreservedly  with any supporting documentation that they may require concerning our professional fees and charges.
